The Works: Samplers and Case Studies

Below are some samplers and case studies of my recent work. They might take a moment to load. Some were completed for clients of collaborating design firms, others for personal clients.

Superkix

Superkix is an online shoe directory that helps sneaker collectors from around the world track down the freshest kicks.

This project started with nailing down a clear identity and style for Superkix. I’d like to think that when you get the identity right, usually but not always, the websites seem to just design themselves.

It probably didn’t hurt that the awesome people at HiiDef are so good to work with.

Buchanan Law

Buchanan Law specialise in the commercial aspects of intellectual property, technology and innovation law. The goal of their website redesign was to better reflects the firm’s professional identity - one of flexibility, innovation and fun.

The site runs on a CMS and utilises Flash animations in the header to provide pages with some added personality.

Digitalmash Ver 3.0

Yep, I’m holding up the page. Amazing. This site was the long-serving online home of yours truly.

This site got a lot of love around the web, probably because it used a lot of nifty Javascript effects a little before mootools was really well known.

My head at the top is animated with Flash to help ‘bring it to life’. You can also right-click it for different face styles.

World Shakuhachi 08’

The shakuhachi is a Japanese bamboo end-blown flute with a hauntingly beautiful sound. I’ve been learning it for a few years now. It’s actually one of the reasons I moved to Japan.

In July 2008, Sydney hosted the World Shakuhachi Festival, which happens once every four years or so. I was lucky enough to be involved through designing its 2008 identity and website.

This site evolved quite a bit after its launch to incorporate video, a registration and payment system, and a Japanese language version.

CSS Zen Garden

Two submissions for Dave Shea’s CSS Zen Garden. For those who don’t know about it, the project was a means of illustrating the potential and true flexibility of CSS.

The left is titled ‘Tailor Made’ and has a bit of a sewing thing happening.

On the right is ‘Squeaky clean’ — designed to be bright, fun and bubbly.
